Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 March 2022, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan held talks with an arriving EU delegation to monitor the implementation of international conventions within the framework of the European Union’s Generalized System of Preferences (GSP+).
During the meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry I. Jasimov informed the foreign delegation about the large-scale socio-economic reforms being carried out in the country, emphasizing that relations between Uzbekistan and the European Union are aimed at developing a reliable partnership and long-term friendly relations.
It was also noted that in the sustainable economic development of Uzbekistan today our country occupies a place in the world economic community, for which the accelerated development of equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with foreign countries is one of the priorities of our foreign economic policy.
In this regard, it was noted that in the process of integrating the Uzbek economy into the world market, it is important to diversify export markets, including the export of national products to the EU countries under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP +).
The volume of Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover with the European Union in 2021 amounted to US$3.85 billion, of which US$539.8 million was exported and US$3,315 million imported.
During the meeting at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, it was noted that in connection with the accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Generalized System of Preferences of the European Union (GSP +), in 2021, the EU pays special attention to intensifying visits of mutual delegations to further expand trade, economic and investment cooperation between business - the community of Uzbekistan and the European Union, as well as marketing and promotion of national goods to enter the market to find buyers of Uzbek products in Europe.
Member of the European delegation N. Zaimis said that bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union is developing steadily, and the EU is ready to further expand cooperation with Uzbekistan within the framework of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP+).
At the same time, Zaimis stressed that the European Union supports the rapid socio-economic reforms in Uzbekistan in recent years, and stressed the importance of reforms aimed primarily at the sustainable development of the country.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed on further cooperation in the development of trade, economic and investment relations within the framework of the EU’s Generalized System of Preferences.
