A meeting of the Senate Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 17 November, a meeting of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on youth, culture and sports was held. It was attended by senators, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, members of the expert group created under the Committee, and representatives of the media.

During the meeting, the issues that are planned to be considered at the ninth plenary session of the Senate were preliminary discussed.

In particular, the issue of sending a parliamentary request to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan to improve the efficiency of medical examination of young people entering marriage was considered.

It was noted that the reproductive health of young boys and girls who are future parents plays an important role in the healthy and harmonious development of the younger generation.

However, the presence of systemic problems in the premarital medical examination, the frivolous attitude of young people towards it, the formal medical examination, the lack of appropriate specialists and material and technical base in hospitals subsequently have a negative impact on the strength of the family and the health of the children being born.

The results of a survey conducted in 8 regions of the country with the participation of 842 respondents in 2019 by the Senate Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports and the Mahalla and Family Research Institute for premarital medical examination also clearly showed the problems existing in this area.

According to the survey, 88.1% of respondents expressed the opinion that they underwent a medical examination voluntarily, and the rest did not want to undergo a medical examination, since the disease is not completely diagnosed during it. 80% of the participants reported that they passed the medical examination with a number of problems. In particular, 42.5% of respondents emphasized that medical examinations are time-consuming.

In particular, problems were noted related to the fact that the duties and qualifications of medical workers do not meet the requirements, it is impossible to undergo a medical examination for some diseases at the place of residence, and sometimes there are cases of corruption.

Senators put forward proposals to improve the control system for ensuring the impartiality and quality of medical examinations of young people entering into marriage, adherence to the territorial principle during medical examinations, free consultation on the medico-genetic and reproductive health of young people entering into marriage, increasing the responsibility of doctors and employees of the registry office, the appointment of a single organization that monitors the activities of medical service institutions for medical examination.

In addition, during the meeting, the results of a parliamentary inquiry sent to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the problems arising in the process of widespread involvement of the population, especially young people, in physical culture and sports were discussed.

Information was given that this parliamentary request was discussed at the Presidium of the Cabinet of Ministers and appropriate measures were taken.

Today, 51 651 sports facilities of the republic can provide classes for 2.1 million people a day. 7905 trainers are assigned to 5447 mahallas in order to create conditions for the population to engage in jogging, walking, fitness in outdoor sports facilities and parks located in the regions.

During the quarantine period, more than 326 thousand people were covered by online sports competitions organized with the aim of organizing full-fledged leisure of the population, especially youth. With strict observance of the quarantine rules in the "green" areas, sports events and physical education in 42 sports were also organized.

The senators emphasized the need to implement comprehensive control over the implementation of the President’s Decree "On measures for the widespread introduction of a healthy lifestyle and the further development of mass sports" and further study of idle sports clubs in connection with the quarantine restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, as well as a special appeal attention to such issues as the number of young people covered by them, the correspondence of the price of the services of these clubs to the real incomes of the population, opportunities and benefits created for representatives of low-income families to play sports.

In addition, the focus was on the report of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the progress of the implementation of the State Program for the implementation of the Action Strategy in the "Year of Science, Education and the Digital Economy" during the nine months of 2020.

An appropriate decision of the Committee was made on the issues considered.
