Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 November, a meeting of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the development of the Aral Sea region was held in the form of video conference.

It was attended by members of the Senate, representatives of relevant ministries and departments, experts and media workers.

During the meeting, the issues that are planned to be considered at the ninth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis were preliminary discussed.

In addition, attention was focused on the urgent tasks facing the Committee for the Development of the Aral Sea Region, and on promising work.

It was noted that the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the development of Aral Sea region was created with the aim of developing Aral Sea region and improving the life of its population, stabilizing the ecological environment of this territory, as well as strengthening systemic parliamentary control over the progress of reforms in this direction.

Taking into account the wide range of the Committee’s activities, an Expert Group was created to provide it with scientific and legal, expert and informational and advisory assistance, assistance in discussing the laws received by the Committee, preparing and conducting control and analytical activities.

In addition, the issues of socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the results of familiarization with the real situation on the ground, proposals made during the presentation of investment projects and dialogue were comprehensively studied. They spoke with the heads of ministries, departments and commercial banks of the city of Nukus and (16) districts, as well as an acquaintance with their work. Plans of measures for the socio-economic development of each district, improvement of living conditions of the population, and improvement of the district have been analyzed.

During the meeting, the report of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the progress of the implementation within nine months of 2020 of the State Program for the implementation of the Action Strategy in the "Year of Science, Education and the Digital Economy" was also discussed.

In particular, within the framework of the State program, today water-saving technologies have been introduced in the republic on 285 thousand hectares or 7% of the irrigated area. It was noted that it is necessary to increase this indicator, that is, to develop mechanisms to stimulate the introduction of water-saving technologies.

It was noted that due to the fact that the preparation of seeds of desert plants during afforestation on the dried bottom of the Aral Sea is a laborious process, it is necessary to develop mechanisms for the massive implementation of this measure in the republic, to organize monitoring of the growth and development of plants planted on the dried bottom of the Aral Sea.

They also talked about the tasks identified by the Committee in accordance with the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On measures for the comprehensive socio-economic development of the Republic of Karakalpakstan in 2020-2023", and the work to be done.

An appropriate decision of the Committee was made on the issues considered.
