A meeting of the National Council of Uzbekistan on combating corruption takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 9 November 2021, a meeting of the National Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Combating Corruption was held.

It was attended by members of the National Anti-Corruption Council, senators, deputies, heads of ministries and departments, as well as media representatives.

The event was opened by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairperson of the National Council for Combating Corruption Tanzila Narbaeva.

At the meeting, attention was focused on 7 priority tasks to be implemented in the next five years on the basis of the principle "From the Action Strategy to the Development Strategy", put forward by the head of state at a joint meeting of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, dedicated to the inauguration of the President, including anti-corruption issues, also identified related activities.

In addition, it was noted that the reforms carried out in this area received a worthy assessment of international rating agencies. In particular, in the 2021 report of the Rule of Law Index, which makes up the World Justice Project, it is recognized that Uzbekistan among 139 countries has risen by 19 positions, from 89 to 70 place.

It was emphasized that over the past five years, the fight against corruption has been raised to the level of state policy, the organizational and legal base in the fight against this evil has been strengthened, and the system of anti-corruption expertise of legislative acts has been improved.

"Road maps" have been adopted to turn the spheres of higher education, health care, capital construction and public procurement into a "sphere without corruption" and in this regard, effective parliamentary control has been established.

In particular, a number of procedures in the areas of higher education and capital construction were simplified, the human factor was reduced, due to the digitalization of some services, factors that gave rise to corruption cases were eliminated.

The meeting discussed the implementation of the tasks defined in the State Anti-Corruption Program for 2021-2022, approved by the Presidential Decree of 6 July 2021.

During the meeting, the reports of the ministers of higher and secondary specialized education and construction were heard, the task of developing a "Roadmap" for 2022–2023 to turn the spheres of higher education and capital construction into a "sphere without corruption" was determined.

Other issues on the agenda were also discussed at the meeting and a corresponding decision was made.
