Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The meeting of the chiefs of the General Staffs of Russia and Uzbekistan Valery Gerasimov and Shukhrat Khalmukhamedov took place in Moscow today. They discussed the prospects of Russian-Uzbek military cooperation.

"Our cooperation in the military field is an important factor in maintaining regional stability. We intend to develop it further, " Valery Gerasimov said at the talks.

According to him, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation considers Uzbekistan as a strategic partner of Russia in the Central Asian region.

"Relations between our states are of an allied nature, and the peoples of Russia and Uzbekistan are linked by centuries – old ties of friendship," the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces said.

During the meeting, he offered to sum up the results of bilateral cooperation and outline prospects for further actions, and also congratulated his colleague on his appointment to the post of Chief of the General Staff – First Deputy Minister of Defence of the Armed Forces of the Republic and wished him success in his service.
