Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held on 6 January. The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission M. Abdusalomov.
The agenda of the meeting, which was attended by members and staff of the Commission, included issues related to the recommendations of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to observe the elections held in Uzbekistan on 22 December 2019, the results of the CEC activities in the second half of 2020 and the work plan for 2021, as well as the approval of some draft provisions on further improving the activities of the Commission.
It was noted at the meeting that despite the difficult situation that gripped the world due to the pandemic, the Central Election Commission fruitfully continued its activities in the past year.
An important political event in the life of our country and people will take place this year - the presidential elections. In this connection, the Central Election Commission is already paying special attention to the organization of the upcoming elections at a high level on the basis of national legislation and generally recognized international democratic principles. In this context, the application in the national electoral legislation and practice of the national experience gained during the past elections and the acceptable recommendations of international observers has an important place.
In the final report of the full mission of the OSCE Office, which observed the parliamentary elections held under the motto “New Uzbekistan - new elections”, a number of positive changes in the national electoral system of our country were recognized. In particular, it was especially noted about the conduct of elections on the basis of perfect legislation and the expansion of the environment of a free view in relation to open opinions. Recommendations are given for the sustainable continuation of work in this direction.
By the decision of the CEC, a plan of measures was approved and appropriate tasks were determined for a comprehensive study of the recommendations set out in the report and the implementation of acceptable ones.
A decision was made to approve the regulations on the Secretariat and the Press Service of the Central Election Commission. In accordance with the document, the Press Service will operate as an independent department directly subordinate to the Chairman of the Central Election Commission. When covering events organized by the Central Election Commission in the media, ensuring openness and transparency in the activities of the Central Election Commission, the Press Service will have to closely interact with the Secretariat.
The meeting approved the regulation on the journal “Uzbekiston Respubliki Markaziy Saylov komissionsi Akhborotnomasi - Bulletin of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan” and the composition of its editorial board.
The event also approved draft regulations on the departmental archive of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, an expert commission for establishing the value of documents and transferring them for permanent storage.
