A law aimed at strengthening the protection of citizens’ rights and freedoms was discussed
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The third plenary session of the Senate discussed the law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aimed at Further Strengthening the Guarantees for Reliable Protection of Human Rights and Freedoms."
A wide range of measures is being implemented in the country to elevate the human rights protection system to a new level based on the principle of "For the Honor and Dignity of a Person," to strengthen the guarantees of protecting individual rights and freedoms within the activities of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies, and to enhance public trust in the law enforcement system.
As a result of extensive reforms in judicial and investigative practices, effective mechanisms have been developed to ensure guarantees for the protection of human rights and freedoms. The law under discussion is also a logical continuation of these reforms, proposing the introduction of the position of investigative judge in district and city courts for criminal cases to reliably ensure the constitutional rights of individuals accused of committing a crime, particularly the rights to liberty and personal inviolability.
At the same time, the law makes changes and additions to address the sanctioning of procedural decisions at the pretrial stage of criminal cases and the consideration of administrative offense cases by investigative judges. It outlines the grounds and procedures for handling cases within the competence of investigative judges.
This law further strengthens the guarantees for reliable protection of human rights and freedoms in investigative activities.
After the discussion, the law was approved by the senators.
