Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the thirty-fifth plenary session of the Senate, the Law "On amendments and additions to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men" was considered.
The law establishes the legal basis for conducting a gender audit in state bodies and organizations.
In particular, it is established that a gender audit is the study and assessment of the state of compliance with the requirements of legislation on guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men, as well as an integrated gender approach in the activities of state bodies and organizations, including in the conduct of personnel policy.
It is established that the main tasks of a gender audit are to study the ratio of the number of women and men in state bodies and organizations and the state of organization of their activities by state bodies and organizations on the basis of an integrated gender approach, as well as assessing the state of implementation of legislation in the field of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women and men. At the same time, it is envisaged to develop proposals to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men.
The Law establishes that a gender audit is carried out on the basis of a three-year plan approved by the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan in state bodies and organizations within the framework of public control, information and proposals based on the results of a gender audit are sent to the Republican Commission on Enhancing the Role of Women in Society, Gender Equality and the Family (Commission).
Information on the results of the gender audit is posted on the official website of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan.
The Commission is also empowered to participate in the implementation of state policy aimed at enhancing the role of women in society, achieving gender equality between women and men, strengthening the family, protecting motherhood, fatherhood and childhood, taking measures to study the current state of affairs in ensuring gender equality, rights and the legitimate interests of women, critical analysis of existing problems and their elimination, approval of the plan for conducting a gender audit and determining the methodology for conducting a gender audit.
The law was approved by the senators.
