A foundation stone was erected in Tashkent on the site of the future "Leningrad Monument"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today in Tashkent, Governor Alexander Beglov took part in the solemn ceremony of laying the foundation stone in the Victory Park memorial complex. The monument "Leningrad Monument" will be erected as a token of gratitude to the Uzbek people, who received the evacuated residents of besieged Leningrad.

“The multinational people of Uzbekistan cherishes the memory of the courage and deeds of the sons and daughters who defeated fascism. In the hearts of the Leningraders-Petersburgers there is deep gratitude to the Uzbek soldiers who defended the besieged Leningrad. We are united by the memory of the inhabitants of the Republic, who received thousands of evacuated Leningraders on their land. Our common heroic past contains strength and confidence in the great future of our peoples. Eternal memory to the heroes! A deep bow to the older generation - our veterans,” said Alexander Beglov.

The Governor also laid a wreath and flowers at the Ode to Fortitude memorial and visited the State Museum of Glory.

The concept of the memorial complex "Victory Park" was developed in accordance with the decree of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev "On the worthy celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in World War II" from 23 October 2019. The memorial complex opened on 9 May 2020.

The memorial "Ode to Fortitude" is dedicated to the memory of Zulfiya Zakirova, who lost five sons in the war.

The State Museum of Glory opened on the 75th anniversary of the victory in World War II.
