A Five-Month-Old Infant Dies Following Violence by Father In Navoi Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Navoi Region, a five-month-old baby has died as a result of violent actions by his father, according to local law enforcement authorities.
According to the Zamon program, the incident occurred in the Khatirchi District during the night of 10 January.
The man, attempting to stop the baby from crying, reportedly placed a sock in the child’s mouth, causing acute respiratory failure. The mother discovered her son in critical condition and urgently took him to the hospital.
Medical personnel recorded clinical death, but through resuscitation efforts, they were temporarily able to restore cardiac activity.
The child was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit, where he remained under specialist supervision for four days. Despite the doctors’ efforts, biological death was confirmed on January 14.
An investigation revealed that the suspect had previously exhibited aggressive behavior within the family. Representatives of the local community reported that during his first marriage, the man had systematically exerted pressure on his children—a son and a daughter. He had been repeatedly counseled and remained under the supervision of relevant authorities.
The man has now been arrested.
The Navoi Regional Department of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case under Article 104 of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, which provides for liability for intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm. Investigative authorities are conducting all necessary procedural actions to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
