A delegation of Uzbekistan takes part in the International Meeting "Stogholm + 50: a healthy planet for common prosperity - our responsibility, our opportunity"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1-3 June 2022, in Stockholm (Sweden), a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the International Meeting "Stockholm + 50: a healthy planet for common prosperity - our responsibility, our opportunity".

The Stockholm meeting was attended by delegations from 137 countries of the world, including 6 heads of state, 3 heads of government, ministers and deputy ministers from 128 states, as well as heads of more than 30 international organizations, UN structural divisions and multilateral environmental conventions.

Representatives of the Uzbek delegation focused on the main achievements of the country in ensuring environmental protection, conservation of biological diversity, solid waste management, ecological balance and sustainable development of the Aral Sea region. In particular, during a separate session

Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan B. Abidov delivered a speech on the topic “Joint Action Plan for Sustainable Development in the Digital Age”, which provided detailed information on measures taken in Uzbekistan to mitigate the consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea, including through support activities of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea region and the creation of a zone of environmental innovations and technologies in the region.

Also on the sidelines of the Stockholm Forum, the delegation of Uzbekistan held bilateral meetings with the leadership of the UN Environment Programme, the secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the EEC Environment Department, the Global Environment Facility (GEF ), the Swedish Environment Agency, the Environment Directorate of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Swedish Waste Management Association, the Swedish Environment Institute, as well as a number of representatives of delegations from various countries, during which presentations were made on the activities of the Multi-Partner Trust fund for human security for the Aral Sea region in Uzbekistan, including the efforts of the republic to create, with international support, a zone of environmental innovations and technologies in the region.

A number of partners expressed their readiness to take part in the First Aral Sea High-Level International Forum in Nukus planned for 2022, as well as to consider the issue of cooperation in the implementation of joint projects on digital transformation and the introduction of innovative technologies aimed at ensuring sustainable development in the region.
