A delegation of Uzbekistan takes part in the 143rd Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26-30 November 2021, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva took part in the 143rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is being held in Madrid (Spain).

About 1.5 thousand delegates from 123 IPU member parliaments, 20 observer states and 8 international organizations took part in the Assembly on the topic “Modern challenges to democracy: overcoming differences and building communities”.

The event was opened by King Felipe IV of Spain, who emphasized the importance of parliaments, considering them the central institution of democracy.

Chairman of the UN General Assembly A. Shahid and Secretary General A. Guterres also noted the priority role of parliamentary diplomacy, as well as the importance of the activities of representative bodies in the implementation of UN agreements. They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the UN and the IPU.

The Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva made a speech at the plenary session.

It was noted that today, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, large-scale reforms and democratic transformations are being carried out in the country aimed at the well-being of the people, ensuring the rights and protection of the population.

Particular attention in the implementation of reforms is also paid to achieving gender equality, ensuring the rights and legitimate interests of women, strengthening their role in public and state life.

Targeted work is underway to strengthen interethnic and interfaith harmony and tolerance. Significant progress has been achieved in attracting young people to participate in the country's public life.

During the speech of the head of the upper house of parliament Tanzila Narbaev, delegations of the IPU member countries were invited to the next Summit of Women-Leaders of Parliaments, which will be held in Uzbekistan in 2022.
