A delegation of the Ministry of Energy visits the largest solar power plant ACWA Power as part of the Dubai-EXPO exhibition

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the international exhibition Dubai-EXPO 2020, the Energy Week of Uzbekistan continues. Within its framework, a delegation of the country’s Ministry of Energy visited the Noor Energy-1 solar power plant of ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia).

The total capacity of this solar power plant in Dubai (UAE) is 950 MW, that is, it is one of the largest solar power plants in the world. Noor Energy-1 produces green energy 24 hours a day by efficiently using 3 different types of solar power generation.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan is effectively working on the implementation of renewable energy projects. In particular, over the past 3 years, 10 cooperation agreements have been signed with international companies for the construction of solar photovoltaic power plants (PVP) and wind power plants (WPP). During this short period, the President of the country signed 9 resolutions on the FES and WES projects.

The first significant result of this work was the commissioning in August 2021 of the first industrial solar photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 100 MW in Karmana district of Navoi region.

The launch of the second FES with a capacity of 100 MW is scheduled for the first quarter of this year in Nurabad district of Samarkand region.

Close cooperation on renewable energy projects has been established by the Ministry of Energy with the Saudi company ACWA Power, which will build thermal, solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2,600 MW in Uzbekistan.

In particular, in December 2023, this company will put into operation two wind farms with a capacity of 500 MW each in Peshku and Gijduvan districts of the region. A wind farm with a capacity of 100 MW will also be built by it in Karauzyak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, it is planned to commission a thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,500 MW, which ACWA Power is building in the city of Shirin, Syrdarya region.

During the visit to Noor Energy-1, members of the Uzbek delegation got acquainted with the experience of generating electricity from solar panels, as well as the efficient use of other types of electricity generation based on solar technologies.

As noted by the head of the Ministry of Energy Abdullajon Otaboev, an analysis of the long-term energy storage technology used at Noor Energy-1 using dissolved salt (which allows continuing power supply at night) will allow the gradual introduction of such experience in Uzbekistan.

The "Energy Week of Uzbekistan" takes place at Dubai-EXPO 2020 from 12 to 16 February in the Uzbek pavilion of the international exhibition.

During the Week, presentations of projects of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Uzbekneftegaz JSC, Thermal Power Plants JSC, meetings and negotiations in the B2B format are held.
