A charity reception takes place in Washington to support the Aral Sea region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In Washington, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov took part in a charitable reception to raise funds to support the Aral Sea region.

The event, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the United States together with the Project C.U.R.E., Boeing Company (manufacturer of aviation, space and military equipment), Rotary International (charitable organization), Winn-Marion Companies (technology company), members of the US-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce, as well as representatives of the American media.

The event was aimed at informing the general American public, business and academic circles about the current environmental situation in the Aral Sea zone, the work carried out by the Government of Uzbekistan to mitigate the negative consequences of an environmental catastrophe.

The participants were unanimous in their opinion that the restoration of the Aral Sea ecosystem and the rational use of water resources are the key to the sustainable development of Central Asia and the preservation of the environment. In this context, the need to unite the efforts of not only the countries of Central Asia, but also the entire world community in this direction was noted.

As part of the event, a separate meeting was also held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov and the President of Project C.U.R.E. Douglas Jackson to discuss the delivery of the next batch of humanitarian cargo to Uzbekistan and issues of expanding partnerships. The American side assured that "Project C.U.R.E." is ready to continue its efforts to attract donors from the United States to support efforts to improve the situation in the Aral Sea region. “Our volunteers exploring further funding continue to raise funds to deliver more containers of humanitarian aid,” Douglas Jackson added.

As a result of negotiations with the head of Project C.U.R.E., an agreement was reached to send a new batch of containers worth US$1.5 million with medical supplies for the needs of Uzbekistan.

Earlier medical equipment and healthcare items worth US$3 million were delivered to Karakalpakstan. In July 2022, delivery of four more containers with a total weight of 16.8 tons, containing 2.9 thousand units of medical supplies, was organized, which were transferred to the medical institutions of Karakalpakstan.
