A Cardboard and Paper Factory May Be Established in Samarkand Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Chinese company Hanrun Paper Company plans to invest US$500 million in a major industrial project in the Samarkand region, the company’s management reported to the regional Hokim Adiz Babaev during a recent meeting.

The project involves the creation of a modern production complex for industrial cardboard, packaging, and office paper.

Implementation is planned in five phases. The production site will require a land area of more than 50 hectares. Currently, land plots in the Khishrau 2 area within the Urgut Free Economic Zone are under consideration and will soon be put up for auction.

Investors note that the factory will be the only enterprise of its kind in Central Asia. The project is expected to create around 3,000 new jobs.

Annual tax revenues to the state budget are projected at US$50–60 million.

The Hokim of Samarkand region emphasized that the project aligns with the region’s socio-economic development priorities and assured investors of comprehensive support from regional authorities, including prompt resolution of organizational and infrastructure issues and continuous project facilitation.
