85% of Uzbekistan Residents Celebrate International Women’s Day, Half Will Spend Up to 1 Million Soums on Gifts — Wildberries Study
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — International Women’s Day remains one of the most popular holidays among residents of Uzbekistan, according to a study conducted by the Wildberries Research Center. The survey found that 85% of respondents reported that the holiday is widely celebrated in their circles, and 79% plan to mark it this year as well.
Akmal Primkulov, Director of Wildberries in Uzbekistan, noted that the holiday is traditionally associated with warm emotions and attention to loved ones. Platform users begin preparing in advance, selecting gifts for mothers, wives, sisters, and friends. The greatest interest is shown in beauty products, perfumes, and accessories.
Respondents’ main associations with March 8 include flowers and gifts for loved ones (52%), femininity and respect for women (50%), and a sense of spring and renewal (44%).
Both men and women prepare gifts for the occasion. Among men, 67% plan to congratulate women close to them, primarily mothers (83%), wives or partners (72%), and sisters (51%). Women also actively participate: 81% plan to give gifts to mothers (75%), friends (59%), and daughters (51%).
Most shoppers have already set a budget for gifts: 55% of respondents intend to spend between 300,000 and 1 million soums, with a median expenditure of around 500,000 soums.
The most popular gifts for women include cosmetics (57%), perfumes (46%), flowers (44%), home goods (43%), and confectionery (35%). Women’s own preferences largely align with the gifts they receive: perfumes (56%), jewelry, fashion accessories, and watches (50%), cosmetics (47%), flowers (46%), and clothing, shoes, and accessories (45%). Home goods remain in demand, with 36% expressing interest in receiving them.
The survey included active Wildberries shoppers in Uzbekistan, with 63% women and 37% men. The most represented age group was 35–54 years old (69%), followed by 18–34 years (27%) and those over 55 (about 4%).
