57th Meeting of CIS Security and Intelligence Chiefs Opens in Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 16 October 2025, the 57th meeting of the Council of Heads of Security and Special Services of the CIS Member States officially opened in Samarkand. This year, the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan is responsible for organizing the event.
At the opening session, a welcome address from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was read to the participants. In his message, the Head of State emphasized that the Council’s annual meetings have established a solid foundation for effective cooperation and exchange of experience in combating terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, organized crime, and other modern threats.
The President highlighted several key factors influencing security in Central Asia, including instability in Afghanistan, the activity of international terrorist groups, cross-border crime, and illicit drug trafficking. He also drew attention to the importance of strengthening cooperation in countering cybercrime and preventing the destructive use of artificial intelligence.
Addressing the broader global security agenda, President Mirziyoyev expressed concern over regional conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, which negatively impact economic and food stability. These challenges, he noted, fuel unfair competition in global markets, rising energy prices, and hinder the implementation of national and transnational energy and transport projects.
In light of these complex challenges, the President stressed the importance of constructive interaction and joint efforts among the CIS intelligence and security agencies to ensure sustainable development of shared economic, energy, communication, and food security systems.
