Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan has decided to release 24 people, who were detained during the events of 1-2 July in Nukus (Karakalpakstan) under the guarantee of the public. This was reported by the press service of the Ombudsman.

This decision was made on the basis of the proposal of the parliamentary commission to investigate the events in Karakalpakstan and at the request of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan.

In accordance with the decision, the preventive measure for 24 suspects was changed from detention to house arrest with public control.

The message of the Ombudsman states that when making a decision, the repentance of the suspects, the presence of minor children, and the difficult situation in families were taken into account. Some detainees are the only breadwinner in the family.

The Ombudsman reports that investigative actions to investigate the events in Karakalpakstan are ongoing.
