22 military aircrafts and 24 helicopters of Afghanistan forcibly landed in Termez

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 14-15 August, 22 military aircrafts and 24 military helicopters of Afghanistan, which violated the airspace of Uzbekistan, were forcibly landed at the international airport in Termez. This was reported by the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan.

Prosecutor General’s Office of Uzbekistan later deleted the statement on violation of the air space of Uzbekistan by the Afghan airplanes and helicopters, saying the information was not verified.

According to the department, there were 585 armed soldiers on board of the aircrafts and helicopters.

On 15 August, three Afghan EMBRAYER-314 planes requested permission to land at the Khanabad airport in Karshi. They received the command to land at the Termez airport. To escort the planes, two MIG-29 planes were taken off into the air.

During the escort in Sherabad district of Surkhandarya region, an Afghan plane "EMBRAYER-314" and a fighter of the Uzbek Air Force "MIG-29" collided. The pilots of both jets managed to eject.

On the same day, 158 citizens and armed soldiers of Afghanistan illegally crossed the border of Uzbekistan into the Termez district across the river.

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Uzbekistan opened a criminal case on these facts under paragraph "b" of part 2 of Article 223 (Illegal travel abroad or illegal entry into the Republic of Uzbekistan) of the Criminal Code.
