12-year-old Uzbek Citizen, Who Ran Away from Home in Istanbul, Returned to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Istanbul, a 12-year-old Uzbek citizen (A.A.) sought help from local police after running away from home due to difficult relations with his mother and stepfather.

Authorities established that the boy’s mother had moved to Türkiye following her divorce in Uzbekistan and entered into a religious marriage with a Turkish citizen. Initially, the child was under the care of his grandmother, but in June 2024, his mother took him to Istanbul. Due to the lack of necessary documents, he could not be enrolled in school and had not attended classes for over a year.

After police intervention, the boy was transferred to the Uzbek Consulate General in Istanbul. It was found that his eyesight had deteriorated and he had not undergone a medical examination. With assistance from the “Culture, Solidarity and Cooperation of Uzbekistan” Society and local diaspora representatives, A.A. received a medical check-up and necessary treatment.

During consultations with consulate staff, the boy shared that he had independently learned Turkish and English, and had begun acquiring several professional skills. He expressed his desire to continue his education, graduate from school, enroll in university, and contribute to the development of his homeland.

A.A. has now been returned to Uzbekistan and continues his education with the support of relevant authorities.

The Uzbek Consulate General in Istanbul expressed gratitude to the “Culture, Solidarity and Cooperation of Uzbekistan” Society, Uzbekistan Airways’ representation in Turkey, Uzbek child welfare authorities, and active members of the diaspora for their material and moral support.
