Tashkent hosts conference on Central Asia nuclear free zone

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent hosted an inter-departmental conference dedicated to creation of the Central Asian nuclear free zone.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade, Ministry of Healthcare, Ministry of Emergency Situations, State nature committee, Sanaotgeokontekhnazorat and Uzbekistan Science Academy.
It was noted that the nuclear free zone in Central Asia was created on initiative of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov and helps to strengthen regional and international security.
An agreement on creation of nuclear free zone in Central Asia was signed in 2006 and the UN Security council signed a protocol on guaranteeing security to the agreement in 2014.
The conference discussed role and importance of the agreement on creation of nuclear free zone in Centrall Asia, illegal movement of nuclear materials and technologies, international law in the nuclear non-proliferation, etc.
The participants exchanged opinion on perspectives of strengthening cooperation among countries of the region in creation of nuclear free zone in Central Asia, cooperation in strengthening ties in fighting new challenges and threats.
