Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 November 2015, the Energy Charter Secretary General Dr. Urban Rusnák held bilateral meetings with high-level officials during his visit to Uzbekistan.
At the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Gulomjon Ibragimov, Dr. Rusnák updated him on the Modernisation process of the Energy Charter, including the Chairmanship practice and geographical expansion of the Energy Charter Process. Regional energy cooperation in Central and Southern Asia was also discussed, including a possibility for the next meeting of the Regional Energy Task Force (RECA) Project to be hosted by Uzbekistan.
From his perspective, Mr. Ibragimov requested the Energy Charter Secretariat to assist in exchanging experience and technologies within the Energy Charter constituency on specific topics, which would be of interest to Uzbekistan and its neighbouring countries. These topics include best practices on electricity loss reduction in distribution networks, technologies for off-grid renewable solutions for remote areas and small environmentally-friendly hydropower installations. Another issue of specific interest to Uzbekistan is that of attracting foreign direct investments into the energy sector which is currently undergoing a transformation process.
Dr. Rusnák also held meetings with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Dilyor Khakimov and the Chairman of the Board of SJSC Uzbekenergo Mr. Iskandar Basidov. They discussed cooperation potential, both on national and regional levels.
