Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is among Top-50 most populous countries in the world, according to the data of the State Statistics Committee of the country said.
The State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan issued a statistic booklet “About population in digits”. According to the committee, Uzbekistan holds 42nd place among the most populous countries in the world with population of 30.5 million.
According to the State Statistics Committee, about 51% of population (15.55 million people) of Uzbekistan is living in cities and 49% (14.937 million people) – in rural areas. The density of population makes up 67.9 persons per square kilometer as of 1 January 2014.
Number of male population of Uzbekistan is 15.227 million (50.1% of total population) and female population – 15.215 million (49.9%).
At the same time, number of population below working age makes up 9.116 million people (29.9% of total population), population at working age – 18.81 million people (61.7%) and population of retirement age – 2.562 million people (8.4%).
The State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said that about 3.445 million people live in Samarkand region, 3.386 million – in Ferghana region and 2.895 million people – Kashkadarya region.
Tashkent led on number of population among largest cities of Uzbekistan. Number of population of the capital city makes up 2.353 million people. Samarkand city was on the second place with population of 509,000 people and Namangan – third with population of 475,700 people.
