Uzbekistan to launch 22 new enterprises in light industry

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will launch 22 new enterprises in light industry with the cost of US$73 million by the end of August 2014, Uzbekyengilsanoat state joint stock company said.
In the result, the export potential of Uzbekistan will increase by US$73 million. The enterprises will create 1,900 new jobs.
Uzbekyengilsanoat noted that it is planned that the light industry will produce industrial goods for 2.5 trillion soums, which will grow by 23% year-on-year. Production of consumer goods will reach 1.035 trillion soums (+23%) in 2014.
Light industry of Uzbekistan is planning to increase production three times by 2020 – to 6.9 trillion soums. In particular, the production of cotton yarn will increase by 2.5 times, finished fabrics - 2.8 times, silk - 2.7 times, nonwovens - 1.5 times, knitted fabric - 2.7 times.
Uzbekistan plans to increase the production of garments by 3.2 times, jerseys - 2.1 times, production of raw silk - 2.1 times. If the volume of production of fabrics in 2011 was 85,63 million square meters, in 2020 this figure will exceed 459.2 million square meters. The growth rate will be 5.4 times.
It is worth to mention that share of light industry in GDP of Uzbekistan increased during last 23 years and reached to 2.7% of GDP, in industrial output – 26.2%, and production of consumer goods – 44%.
The volume of production of cotton fibre rose from 7% in 1991 to 44% in 2014, Uzbekyengilsanoat said.
Uzbekistan attracted US$1.8 billion of foreign investments into light industry in last 23 years and implemented over 150 large investment projects. The industry currently provides over 80,000 new jobs.
In last two years, Uzbekistan commissioned 35 industrial enterprises with total cost of US$330.4 million, export potential for US$212.5 million and creation of 11,000 new jobs. At present, the spinning capacity in Uzbekistan makes up 450,000 tonnes, weaving - 160 million meters, knitted fabric – 60,000 tonnes, sewing and knitting – 180.3 million units.
Launch of new enterprises helped to increase exports of the sector by 130 times and the figure is expected to reach US$1 billion against US$7 million in 1991. Currently, Uzbekistan exports its products to some 50 counties.
Uzbekyengilsanoat has about 200 small enterprises and their share in total production of the company reached 38%.
