Uzbekistan not planning to construct nuclear power plant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is not planning to construct nuclear power plant, a press service of Uzbekenergo state joint stock company said.
Earlier, Russian mass media reported that the Government of Uzbekistan is considering a construction of nuclear power plant in the country in near future.
Uzbekenergo said that construction of nuclear power plant is not envisaged in the programme of developing of industry of Uzbekistan and annual investment programmes.
The company said that Uzbekenergo implements 28 large investment projects on construction of new, modernization and reconstruction of new production capacities within 2014 investment programme. In the first half of 2014, the volume of used investments within the project reached US$247.8 million (+48.5%).
Uzbekenergo implements the project “Construction of power units with the capacity of 130-150 megawatt at Angren thermap power station with thermalclamping selection with use of high-ash coal. Harbin Electric International Company Limited (China) is general contractor of the project and the contracts for supply of equipment were signed. Construction works are underway at the site.
The works on expansion of Talimarjan thermal power station with construction of two 450-megawatt combined cycle power plants is underway. The construction of 370-megawatt combined cycle power plant is also underwat. The tenders on selection of general contractor were concluded and supply of equipment and spare parts are underway.
The tender documentation is prepared on the project on expansion of Navoi therma power station with construction of the second 450-megawatt combined cycle power plant in cooperation with consultants TEPSCO. The project is implemented in financial assistance of JICA.
Uzbekenergo also modernizes system of accounting energy with introduction of automated system on commercial accounting electricity. It is planned to install 5 million modern electronic electricity meters across Uzbekistan. The project is implemented in cooperation with ADB, World Bank and other investors.
Uzbekenergo also started works on construction of solar power plant in Samarkand region with the capacity of 100 megawatt.
Uzbekenergo also works on launch of the joint venture on production of solar water heating systems with Chinese partners at the Jizzakh special industrial zone. Its capacity will be 50,000 units of collectors a year. The venture will be commissioned in September 2014.
The company actively works on creation of joint venture with Korean partners on production of energy saving LED lamps at the Jizzakh special industrial zone.
