Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan decreased production of tobacco products from 614 million packages in 2009 to 498.4 million packages in 2013, or 20% down, according to tobacco market review, prepared by UzBAT A.O.
At the same time, balanced and well thought-out tax policy helps to increase the size of tobacco taxes to the state budget. The state budget received 178 billion soums from tobacco production in 2009 and 341.5 billion soums in 2013.
According to the latest data, level of tobacco products consumption per capita in Uzbekistan is one of the lowest in the CIS countries.
The turnover of illegal tobacco products circulation is falling in Uzbekistan and its share makes up less than 5% now, the review said. At the same time, latest researches show that consumers have no knowledge on revealing illegal cigarettes. The measures should be adopted to improve knowledge of consumers on this issue.
The review underlined that the government takes into account interests of the society, state budget, consumers and producers, as well as issues of employment and health of population in solving problems of tobacco industry.
