SCO transport ministers gather in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The sixth meeting of the ministers of transport of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held in Tashkent on 15 November 2013.
Representatives of transport and communication of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan participated at the event. Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev represented Uzbekistan and he chaired the meeting.
The delegations of the SCO considered opinion on current state and perspectives of developing multilateral cooperation in transport sphere within the SCO.
The sides underlined that priority attention is paid to ensuring practical implementation of agreements in developing transport and regional transport corridors, which were reached at the session of the Council of the heads of the SCO member states on 13 September 2013 and the Council of the heads of the governments of the SCO on 4-5 December 2012, held in Bishkek.
It was noted that the current meeting of the ministers was an important stage of preparation to upcoming session of the Council of the heads of governments of the SCO member states, which will be held in Tashkent on 28-29 November 2013.
The SCO member states noted that key tasks of multilateral cooperation in transport sector is to prepare the agreement among the governments of the SCO member states on creation favourable conditions for international automobile transportation within the SCO, which will help to boost automobile communication in the region, raise transit potential and increase mutual trade and investments.
The sides considered and agreed a draft agreement and adopted decision to sign the document at the session of the Council of the heads of government of the SCO member states on 28-29 November 2013 in Tashkent.
The SCO member states agreed to continue to develop mutual beneficial interaction in transport sphere within the programme of multilateral trade-economic cooperation of the member states of the SCO.
The sides also reached agreement to pay attention to developing transport infrastructure, including through implementation of the projects on construction and launch of railway transport objects.
Transport bodies of the SCO member states will continue work on forming maximal favourable conditions for increasing the volume of transit transportation, and carry out coordinated policy on optimization of tariffs at transportation of cargoes through railway transport and complex rates at processing of cargoes at ports and border crossing points.
The sides agreed to develop cooperation in air transportation, including through interaction in air navigation, exchange of experience on creation and management of international airports, develop new effective air roots among the SCO member states.
The heads of the delegations underlined that it is important to create new and effectively use current international inter-modal logistic centres in the region.
They reached agreement on further developing of cooperation with the SCO observer states and partners of dialogue, attracting their participation in developing multilateral cooperation in transport sphere within the organization.
The sides agreed to set date and venue of next Meeting of the ministers of transport will be agreed through the SCO Secretariat.
After the meeting, the SCO member states signed a protocol of the session.
