Meat consumption in Uzbekistan to increase by 35% by 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Meat consumption in Uzbekistan per capita will increase by 35.3% and make up 54.8 kg a year by 2025, Mezon.uz reported quoting a report “Strategy of food security in Uzbekistan till 2025”.
The report “Strategy of food security in Uzbekistan till 2025” was prepared by the Center for Economic Research.
According to the official data, livestock of Uzbekistan annually grows by 7-10%. Main number of cattle, sheep and goats fell to share of dehkan farms – 90%.
From 2009, Uzbekistan started to develop potential of meat industry and complex processing of raw materials and production of meat products. The presidential decree “On additional measures on expanding production of foodstuff and saturation of internal market” stimulated the industry.
From 1 July 2009, only legal entities started to process and produce ready dairy and meet products in Uzbekistan.
Microfirms and small enterprises allowed to pay 50% of single tax payment till 1 January 2014 and freed funds should be used to re-equipment and modernization of production capacities.
According to opinion of the specialists, this helped too fast and balanced development of small processing enterprises and equipment of them with modern technologies in all regions of Uzbekistan.
In October 2011, 24 enterprises from all regions of Uzbekistan joined the Association of enterprises of food industry. Among them are key players- Marmaks, Tegen Group, Geomax plyus, Rozmetov Z. (Tashkent) and Potok mahsulot (Navoi).
The Government of Uzbekistan on 23 August 2012 put a target to meat production and called to increase share of product processing from 6.9% in 2012 to 12.1% in 2015.
According to studies, Samarkand region (125,300 tonnes), Kashkadarya region (122,100 tonnes) and Tashkent region (119,000) are largest producers of meat in Uzbekistan. Their total share in total meat production of Uzbekistan makes up 35.8%.
At the same time, it is expected that Tashkent region (including Tashkent city) will produce 19,100 tonnes of sausage and tinned meat products (16.1% of produced meat), Andijan region – 8,900 tonnes (14.4%) and Kashkadarta region – 10,000 tonnes (8.2%).
