Silkworm breeders of Karakalpakstan test method of growing crops twice a year

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Silkworm breeders of the Republic of Karakalpakstan tested in practice a method of growing crops tested twice a year. Currently they started to sell raw silk of new crop to collection points.
UzA reported that silkworm breeders of Karakalpakstan raised 14,000 boxes of silkworm larvae and received 810 tonnes of the crop. Effectively using the favorable climatic conditions, this year they have grown a second crop as an experiment, the report said.
Deputy head of Pilla of Karakalpakstan Adilbek Uteniyazov said that 80 boxes of silkworm larvae were distributed in five districts and 35-40 kg of crop was received from each box. Currently, the second crop is collected.
At present, the area of mulberry plantations in the Republic of Karakalpakstan makes up 3054 hectares. This year intensive mulberry trees were planted at another 60 hectares.
