Uzbek Cotton and Textile Fair starts in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ninth International Uzbek cotton and textile fair started in Tashkent on 16 October 2013.
Within two days, Uzbekistan, as one of key players of international cotton market, will provide representative of cotton and textile industries, trade agencies to discuss developments in global cotton market, attraction of investments to textile industry of Uzbekistan, participate in fair and exchange trades of the Uzbek cotton and textile products.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan, representatives of over 1,000 cotton and textile companies from 40 countries expressed their intention to participate at the event.
The ministry noted that Uzbekistan developed over 160 sorts of cotton, which were recommended for planting in various regions of Uzbekistan. The cotton were developed based on climate of Uzbekistan, productivity and quality of fiber, immunity against salt and illness, high temperature, etc.
Uzbekistan also worked on modernization of its ginneries. Currently, Uzpakhtasanoat has 98 ginneries across the country and 34 specialized shops for cotton seeds processing. During independence years, Uzbekistan fully or partially modernized all ginneries.
At the moment, Uzbekistan works on developing its national textile industry to increase internal processing of cotton-fiber and production of products with high added value.
In 1990s, Uzbekistan processed only 7% of cotton processed in the country and it reached over 40% in 2012. According to the experts, Uzbekistan plans to process 60% of cotton produced in the country. Along with this, Uzbekistan develops silk industry, production of knitted goods and ready garments, hosiery, etc.
There are 2,000 registered enterprises of light industry, of which about 300 are part of Uzbekyengilsanoat joint stock company.
Uzbekistan now develops its light industry based on five year programme, which was approved in 2010. It is directed at increases assortment of production of ready products, exports of goods and saturation of internal market.
Uzmarkazimpeks, Uzinterimpleks and Uzprommashimpeks became significant participants of international cotton market and they conduct active marketing strategy with use of modern sales methods.
During the event, the participants will be able to familiarize with samples of the Uzbek cotton and textile products. They will have chance to sign contracts on purchase of products and discuss transportation routes. The participants will also have chance to familiarize with investment potential of the regions of Uzbekistan and projects in textile industry.
