Uzbekistan starts to construct railroad Angren-Pap

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan started to construct railroad Angren-Pap, which will link Ferghana Valley with other part of the country bypassing Tajikistan.
The publication of the Ministry of Economy and the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said that the works on construction of new electrified railroad Angren-Pap have been launched.
In April 2013, Islam Karimov underlined that the Government of Uzbekistan was considering to construct electrified railroad on Angren-Pap direction with the length of 125 km.
Uzbek President said that implementation of the project will create single national railway network, which will cover all territory and regions of Uzbekistan. He said this is the strategic project.
President Islam Karimov said that the project will be implemented in 2014-2015 and the construction works will be completed in 2016. He said that people will have chance to travel to Ferghana Valley, including Andijan, on train.
According to Uzbekistan Temir Yollari, preliminary cost of the project makes up US$1.9 billion and was included to investment plan of the company for next five years.
The project will be financed due to resources of the state budget, own resources of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari and loans of international financial institutions. The feasibility study of the project will be completed by the end of 2013.
The railway from Angren to Pap with the length of 129 km will go through Kamchik pass and link Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions with other part of Uzbekistan. It is planned to construct two tunnels.
