Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Enterprises of Uzbekenergo state joint stock company produced 22.003 billion KWH electricity in the five months of 2013, which grew by 1 billion cubic meters year-on-year.
According to Uzbekenergo, 1 billion KWH electricity is enough to fully meet demand of Tashkent city and Tashkent region in electricity within a month.
Uzbekenergo said that the growth of electricity production is a result of implementation of investment projects.
In particular, new combined-cycle power plant with the capacity of 478 megawatt was commissioned at Navoi thermal power station.
Uzbekenergo is working on implementation of several similar projects at thermal power stations. Combined-cycle power plants will be installed at Talimarjan thermal power station (900 megawatt), Navoi thermal power station (450 megawatt) and Tashkent thermal power station (370 megawatt).
Uzbekistan plans to complete implementation of 48 investment projects with the cost of over US$6 billion by 2015.
Implementation of the projects will help to commission over 2,000 mega volt ampere of transformer capacities and over 2,700 megawatts generating capacities, as well as new electricity supply lines.
As of the beginning of 2013, about 84% of electricity in Uzbekistan is produced at thermal power stations. About 12-13% fell to share of hydropower stations and 3% to alternative sources of energy.
Uzbekistan has 45 power stations with installed capacities of 12.4 million kilowatt. Uzbekenergo holds 16 power stations. It is expected that Uzbekistan will increase electricity production up to 56-57 billion KWH electricity by 2015.
