WTO Deputy Director holds meeting at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 February 2019, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with the Deputy Director of the World Trade Organization, Mr. Allan Wolff.

During the talks, it was noted that there is need to intensify the negotiation process within the framework of the initiative on Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, as well as concluding consecutive bilateral and multilateral agreements in foreign trade with foreign countries and international organizations.

The procedure consists of several stages, each of which is planned to be carried out on the basis of an analysis of the development of individual sectors of the economy, various segments of domestic producers and the conformity of the used mechanisms of state regulation of the economy.

The leadership of the Ministry stated that, in accordance with the assigned functions and duties, the department will take the most active part in the process of interaction with foreign colleagues and work of the relevant interdepartmental commissions, aimed at accelerating the stipulated administrative and legal procedures.

In turn, the WTO secretariat provided recommendations on optimizing customs and tariff regulation while integrating the country’s domestic market into the international trading space and assured the Uzbek side that they would provide technical assistance to train local specialists and prepare the necessary documents for the successful entry of the republic into this organization.
