World Bank Supports Rural Infrastructure Development Project in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with financial support from the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), is implementing the “Rural Infrastructure Development” project.

The initiative aims to improve the quality of life for residents in more than 300 remote rural communities across five regions: Andijan, Namangan, Ferghana, Syrdarya, and Jizzakh.

The project allows rural communities to independently identify priority infrastructure facilities—roads and bridges, water and electricity networks, schools, and kindergartens—that need to be constructed or modernized to enhance living conditions.

During a recent visit to the Ferghana Valley, Najee Benhassin, the World Bank’s Regional Director for Central Asia, visited the Uch Uyli mahalla in Pap district, home to approximately 3,000 residents. There, he participated in the ceremonial opening of a 150-seat kindergarten, which was fully renovated with the support of the project. Mr. Benhassin presented a symbolic key to the institution’s director, toured the upgraded facilities, and engaged with local residents, parents, and staff to assess the quality of the work carried out.

Additionally, as part of the project, a covered football field was constructed at one of the mahalla schools, and more than seven kilometers of asphalt roads were laid within the community, significantly improving transportation access and living conditions for local residents.
