Working visit of the delegation of the Ministry of Energy to the Republic of Korea

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A delegation of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan paid a working visit to the Republic of Korea, where it took part in a number of events, including the 7th International Exhibition and Conference of Electricity Technologies BIXPO-2021.

The conference “Inviting a New Era: Meeting Carbon Neutral Energy” was held on November 10 and 11 in Gwangju and was held in a hybrid format.

At its opening, the participants were greeted by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, Kim Boo Geum, who noted that Korea intends to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and provide 60-70% of electricity generation from renewable energy sources (RES). Thus, Korean companies have launched a project for the construction of floating wind farms with a total capacity of up to 25 GW.

Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was the guest of honor at the conference.

In her speech, Secretary General of the International Energy Council Angela Vilkas noted that the energy transition should not be a goal, but a tool for achieving carbon neutrality. At the same time, awareness among the population regarding issues of climate change and carbon neutrality is important.

Among the topics discussed - ensuring the development of "smart grids", international cooperation in order to study the possibilities of such an energy source as hydrogen, to accelerate its use on an industrial scale for generating electricity, the need to ensure a fair energy transition for all countries and social strata, the possibility of nuclear energy as a source of energy, which, along with hydroelectric power plants, has the lowest emission rate.

During the Summit, a cooperation agreement was signed between the UzAtom Agency and KEPCO, providing for the establishment of an exchange of experience. KEPCO is the largest electricity company in South Korea, responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, as well as the development of electricity projects, including nuclear power, wind power and coal power.
