Winners of contest “Society and I – 2013” awarded in Tashkent

The contest was organized in cooperation with the Public Fund on support of NGOs and other institutes of civil society under the Oliy Majlisof Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan Agency for print and information, Creative Union of journalists of Uzbekistan. The contest was held among journalists, photo journalists, internet website, information agencies and journalists.

The contest was held to improve coverage of democratic, public-political and social-economic reforms in the country at mass media and raise activities of the journalists in society and support them.

Over 100 representatives of the mass media sector participated in the contest with over 2,000 materials.

The contest was held in ten nominations, of which seven were connected with the specialization of journalists. There were also nominations for young journalists.

Within the awarding ceremony, a roundtable “Reforms, conducted by the government to ensure economic independence and financial stability of mass media” was held.

The event discussed issues related to developing mass media and improving their activities, reforms in Uzbekistan on creating civil society, information security of persons, priorities in developing mass media, etc.

The participants also considered issues related to covering activities of civil society and the state bodies, legal protection of journalists, etc.
