The new facilities were developed thanks to the attention and assistance of the Government of Uzbekistan to further cement the university’s position as one of the leading deliverers of internationally recognised world-class higher education qualifications.
The new Teaching block will house the majority of the university’s undergraduate teaching provision in a series of bright, spacious, modern and well furnished classrooms. The frosted glass partitions separating classroom and corridor engender an open and collaborative atmosphere.
The Teaching block also features the Learning centre, developed in collaboration with the British Council, and is home to the excellent catalogue of learning resources from the previously popular and now defunct British Council Library. The centre is dedicated to the improvement of English language proficiency and the provision of training sessions and seminars.
The Sports Hall, freely open to staff and students alike, offers opportunity to engage in different sport activities. The building boasts three badminton courts; a large multi-purpose space for football, basketball and volleyball; viewing gallery; gymnasium and health centre.
The new Learning Resource Centre took the shape of a much bigger, spacious three-storey building, dwarfing the university’s former library. It holds not only hard-copy resources from myriad international and local publishers, but is also equipped with numerous computers allowing users to access the great number of e-resources to which the university subscribes.
These achievements and improvements are further testimony to Westminster International University’s commitment to continuing its course of modernization and the development of its potential. Utilising these new resources to the greatest effect, the university aims to open new faculties and courses, expand its research activities and outputs, and most importantly to provide the highest level of education to ever increasing numbers of students.
