Variable curricula to continue to be introduced in schools of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An experiment on the introduction of variable curricula will be continued in secondary schools of Uzbekistan in the 2020-2021 academic year. Moreover, the number of directions of optional classes will be expanded.

Starting from the third quarter of the 2019-2020 academic year, variative curricula were introduced as an experiment in secondary schools for students in grades 10 and 11.

The purpose of introducing variable curricula is to provide students with the opportunity to study in depth subjects of interest to them, prepare for entrance exams of universities, etc.

It is important to note that the introduction of variable curricula is voluntary and schools, when implemented, will take into account the presence of highly qualified and experienced teachers.

The Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan adopted the order “On testing approbation of testing varied curricula in secondary schools”.

According to the document, testing for the introduction of variable curricula will continue in the 2020-2021 school year in schools that introduced them into the curriculum for the 2019-2020 school year.

The document emphasizes that the total weekly hours provided for in the basic curriculum are maintained.

Until 1 August2020, the Republican Education Center was instructed to develop standard calendar-thematic plans for variable curricula.

In the new academic year, schools will have the right to introduce variable curricula in grades 7, 8, and 9. In the last academic year, variable plans were introduced for students in grades 10-11 only.

In accordance with the order, the number of directions of optional classes increases from 5 to 12:

first direction: for grades 10-11 - a foreign language and philology;

second direction: for grades 10-11 - finance and economics;

third direction: for 7-8-9-10-11 classes - web freelance;

fourth direction: for grades 10-11 - technology;

fifth direction: for grades 10-11 - natural sciences;

sixth direction: for the 10-11th grades - social sciences and humanities;

seventh direction: for grades 10-11 - the direction of primary education;

eighth direction: for grades 10-11 - chemical-technological section;

ninth direction: for grades 10-11 - geography and geology;

tenth direction: for grades 10-11 - the direction of preschool education and psychology;

eleventh direction: for grades 10-11 - history and archeology;

twelfth direction: 10-11 grades - tourism.

In the process of testing this curriculum, such subjects (9 subjects) as native language and literature, Uzbek / Russian, foreign language, history, education, mathematics, computer science, primary pre-conscription training and physical education will be mandatory.

As part of additional hours in optional classes, students will study in-depth subjects, use the resources of Khan Academy O’zbek - Onlayn ta’lim platformasi, additional books and materials, solve tests (published on the website of the State Testing Center), prepare for entrance exams to universities etc.

In elective classes, in addition to textbooks, you can use additional books and sources that have passed the relevant examination at the Republican Education Center.
