Uzsuvta’minot Explains Appearance of Colored Wastewater in Bozsu Canal
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A video circulating on social media claims that colored wastewater is being discharged into the Bozsu Canal. In response, the joint-stock company Uzsuvta’minot issued an official statement.
The organization emphasized that this is not a new issue.
Tashkent operates three treatment facilities designed to handle domestic wastewater from kitchens, baths, and households. These facilities are equipped with modern biological treatment technologies and are specifically intended for such wastewater. Chemical waste, however, must undergo preliminary treatment directly at the producing enterprises.
The growth of industrial and entrepreneurial activities has led to the entry of various chemical substances into the sewer system, including residual dyes from textile factories. Such wastewater negatively affects the operation of treatment plants. According to established regulations, every enterprise is required to have local pre-treatment units that retain chemical substances before they enter the general sewer network.
Nevertheless, due to the high costs of operating these units, some enterprises continue to discharge wastewater directly. The colored effluents captured in the video originate from textile production, and existing treatment plants are unable to fully remove dyes and chemical impurities.
Uzsuvta’minot reminds that all enterprises are obliged to prevent the discharge of hazardous wastewater into the sewer system and the environment.
Violating these requirements contravenes not only sanitary, environmental, and industrial standards but also fundamental principles of responsibility to society and nature.
