UzLiDeP: implementation of Uzbek leader’s initiative is new element of regional security
The initiative on creation of the nuclear free zone in Central Asia was vowed by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov at the session of the UN General Assembly in 1993 and contributes to strengthening regional security and global non-proliferation and disbarment regime.
Abduqodir Toshqulov, a member of faction of Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, said that during independence years, Uzbekistan formed balanced foreign policy, based on national interests. He said that foreign policy of Uzbekistan focuses on peaceful and creative development, based on humanism and peace, directing its efforts to ensure peaceful and sustainable development of the region.
He said that the concept of foreign policy envisages protecting and strengthening peace and stability in Central Asia, turning the region to zone of safety and sustainable development.
Politician said that one of the largest initiatives of Uzbekistan, which received recognition and support in the world, is an idea on creation of nuclear free zone in Central Asia. He recalled that the President of Uzbekistan announced about this initiative at the 48th session of the UN General Assembly in 1993.
The party is sure that the initiative of the Uzbek President fully meets interests of the region in the way of nuclear-free development and preventing uncontrolled dissemination of mass destruction weapons.
In May 2014, the initiative of the Uzbek leader became a reality. The initiative received final international legal registration of the agreement on nuclear free zone in Central Asia after five nuclear powers inked a protocol on guarantees of security at the UN headquarters in New York.
He said that UzLiDeP is sure that Central Asian Nuclear Free Zone will create an element of regional security, ensuring strengthening fight against terrorism and preventing fall of nuclear materials and technologies to non-state subjects, first of all, terrorists. Realization of the initiative of the initiative of the Uzbek leader became real effort to execute resolution of the UN Security Council 1540 (2004), which obliged the governments to prevent purchase, distribute and use of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, as well as their delivery means by terrorists.
