Uzhydromet signs a contract with CAREC for the supply of equipment
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting of the Uzhydromet’s representatives with a delegation of the Central Asian Regional Environmental Center took place in Tashkent, at which a contract was signed for the supply of 50 automatic weather stations as part of the regional project CAMP4ASB (Adaptation to Climate Change and Mitigation Program its consequences in the Aral Sea basin).
The CAMP4ASB project aims to address common problems and challenges associated with the effects of climate change in Central Asia by increasing access to improved climate change knowledge and data for key stakeholders, as well as by increasing investment and building technical capacity.
The project consists of regional and national components. One of the tasks of the regional component of the project is to provide technical assistance at the regional and national level for the formation of an information and analytical base for adaptation to climate change and low-carbon development, as well as providing departments and agencies involved in the study of climate change with software and equipment.
Uzhydromet, as the national coordinator of the Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Program in the Aral Sea Basin, closely cooperates with CAREC in the framework of this project.
It should be noted that currently Uzhydromet adopts measures to modernize the hydrometeorological service of the republic both through state investment projects for reconstruction and construction, and through the attraction of grant funds.
The equipment contract signed between Uzhydromet and CAREC will be financed by the World Bank. 50 automatic meteorological stations will be installed at Uzhydromet stations and stations in the regions and will serve to improve climate monitoring systems - increase the efficiency and accuracy of observation data, and as a result, increase the efficiency and quality of hydrometeorological services.
During the meeting, First Deputy General Director of Uzhydromet Bahriddin Nishonov and CAREC Executive Director Zafar Makhmudov emphasized the importance of the work done and expressed hope for further cooperation in this direction.
