Uzbekistan’s Senate Ratifies Extradition Treaty with Hungary
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At its thirteenth plenary session, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis approved the Law “On the Ratification of the Treaty between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Hungary on Extradition,” signed in Budapest on 20 May 2025.
The ratified document is aimed at legally regulating cooperation between the two states in providing mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and предусматривает further development of mechanisms for cooperation in combating crime.
The treaty clearly defines the terms and procedures for extradition, the process for submitting and reviewing relevant requests, grounds for refusing extradition, as well as provisions ensuring the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of persons subject to extradition.
It was noted that ratification of the agreement creates additional legal instruments to enhance the effectiveness of efforts against transnational crime and elevates Uzbek–Hungarian legal cooperation to a higher level.
Adoption of the law also ensures the consistent fulfillment by Uzbekistan of its international obligations and contributes to the further strengthening of the rule of law.
Following the discussion, senators unanimously supported the law.
