Uzbekistan’s Senate Elects Mirzo Ulugbek Abdusalamov as Constitutional Court Judge for a 10-Year Term
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At its 13th plenary session, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan elected Mirzo Ulugbek Abdusalamov as a judge of the Constitutional Court of the republic for a ten-year term. The decision was adopted by a resolution of the upper house of parliament.
The appointment was made under the updated provisions of the Law “On the Constitutional Court,” which stipulate that judges are now elected for a single ten-year term without the right to reappointment. Previously, the term of office was five years, with the possibility of subsequent re-election for an additional ten years.
Mirzo Ulugbek Abdusalamov is 74 years old. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Law of Tashkent State University, holds a PhD in Law, and is an Honored Lawyer of Uzbekistan.
Over the course of his career, he has held key positions within the country’s judicial system. From 1995 to 2004, he served as Chairman of the Supreme Economic Court, and from 2004 to 2005, he was Chairman of the Constitutional Court.
