Uzbekistan's Scientists Develop Three New Soybean Varieties

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbek plant breeders have added three new soybean varieties to the State Register of Plant Breeding Achievements.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the Marjon variety was developed by scientists at the Institute of Genetics and Experimental Plant Biology of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, while the Vodiy jilosi and Oltin vodiy varieties were created by specialists at the Research Institute of Grain and Leguminous Crops.

Registration in the Ministry of Justice register grants the variety's authors exclusive rights to its use. A breeding achievement receives legal protection upon meeting the criteria of novelty, distinctness, uniformity, and stability.

Soybean holds a special place among agricultural crops, with a protein content of up to 45% and a vegetable oil content of up to 25%. In terms of its balanced amino acid profile, soy protein comes remarkably close to meat and dairy products, which is why the crop is known worldwide as "plant-based meat."

Its applications extend well beyond the food industry — soybeans are used to produce medical plasma substitutes and high-quality optical lenses. Beyond its nutritional value, soy also offers agronomic benefits, enhancing soil fertility and improving its agrochemical composition.
