Uzbekistan’s Permanent Population Reaches 38.07 Million

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 October 2025, the permanent population of the Republic of Uzbekistan reached 38,069.1 thousand people. This figure is 713.7 thousand, or 1.9%, higher than for the same period in 2024, according to the National Statistics Committee.

Population density reached 84.8 people per square kilometer, up 1.6 persons compared to 1 October 2024 (83.2 people/km²).

The majority of the population, 19,396.3 thousand (51.0%), lives in urban areas, while 18,672.8 thousand (49.0%) reside in rural areas.

Among the total population, men predominate with 19,172.5 thousand (50.4%), while women number 18,896.6 thousand (49.6%).

From January to September 2025, the number of live births amounted to 664.6 thousand, 29.3 thousand fewer than during the same period in 2024.

The birth rate was recorded at 23.5 per mille. Among the newborns, boys accounted for 343.6 thousand (51.7%) and girls for 321.0 thousand (48.3%). More births occurred in rural areas (345.3 thousand, 52.0%) than in urban areas (319.3 thousand, 48.0%).

During the reporting period, 132.2 thousand deaths were registered, 0.5 thousand more than in January–September 2024. The mortality rate was 4.7 per mille.

The natural population growth reached 532.4 thousand people. Among the deceased, men predominated (72.7 thousand, 55.0%) and women accounted for 59.5 thousand (45.0%). Mortality was higher in urban areas (71.8 thousand, 54.3%) than in rural areas (60.4 thousand, 45.7%).

Migration with countries near and far showed a negative balance in January–September 2025: 1,133 people arrived, while 7,585 departed.

Meanwhile, internal migration between regions totaled 210,167 people, with arrivals from other regions equal to departures to other regions.

The total number of arrivals (internal and external) was 211,300 people, while the total departures reached 217,752 people.

During the period, 177.0 thousand marriages were registered, with a marriage rate of 6.3 per mille, 2.4 thousand fewer than in the same period of 2024. Most marriages occurred in urban areas (91.2 thousand, 51.5%) and 85.8 thousand (48.5%) in rural areas.

The number of divorces amounted to 35.4 thousand, with a divorce rate of 1.3 per mille, an increase of 1.4 thousand compared to January–September 2024. Divorces were more common in cities (21.4 thousand, 60.4%) than in rural areas (14.0 thousand, 39.6%).

From January to September 2025, the total number of people arriving in the country was 211,300, including 210,167 from other regions of Uzbekistan and 1,133 from abroad.

The total number of departures reached 217,752, including 210,167 to other regions of the country and 7,585 abroad.
