Uzbekistan’s Permanent Population Increased by 17.6 Million Since Independence
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s permanent population has grown by 17.6 million people since the country gained independence, according to data from the National Statistics Committee published on 5 February 2026.
As of 1 January 2026, the permanent population reached 38,236,704 people.
Compared to the early 1990s, this represents an increase of 17.6 million people, or 85.6%, reflecting the country’s stable demographic growth during its period of independent development.
At the beginning of 1991, Uzbekistan’s population was 20.6 million. By 1995, it had risen to 22.46 million; in 2000 — 24.49 million; and by 2005 — over 26 million. In 2010, the permanent population reached 28.0 million, and by 2015 — 31.02 million.
Growth continued in the following years: as of 1 January 2020, the population was 33.91 million; in 2021 — 34.56 million; in 2022 — 35.27 million; in 2023 — 36.02 million; and in 2024 — 36.8 million.
By the end of 2025, the permanent population had grown to 37.54 million, reaching 38.24 million at the beginning of 2026.
