Uzbekistan’s People’s Democratic Party Calls for Revision of Paid Parking Tariffs in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Deputies of the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) have called for a review of tariffs for paid parking spaces in Tashkent. The relevant statement was published on the party’s official website.
According to the lawmakers, the current rate of 12,000 soums per hour has sparked significant public concern. Residents working in the city center often have to pay for around eight hours of parking per day, which in total exceeds the country’s minimum wage. The deputies noted that such rates are inconsistent with average household incomes and the principles of social fairness.
The PDPU emphasized that parking fees should be economically justified and subject to periodic review. Transparency is also crucial: citizens should have access to information regarding how collected funds are allocated and spent.
The party proposed allowing free parking near state social facilities—such as medical institutions, public service centers, libraries, and “Inson” centers—for a designated period. Additionally, deputies suggested that at least 5% of parking spaces near commercial and cultural sites be reserved for privileged groups.
It was also noted that some paid parking areas are located in zones where stopping is prohibited by road signs, which could mislead drivers into thinking that payment legalizes a violation, whereas traffic rules still classify it as an offense.
The deputies stressed that the development of Tashkent’s transport system should prioritize residents’ convenience and adhere to principles of social fairness.
