Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis Delegation Begins U.S. Visit to Study Congress Operations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis has begun an official visit to the United States to exchange experiences in parliamentary activities and study advanced legislative practices.
The delegation includes O. Mamatkarimov, Deputy Chair of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments, and Tourism; S. Abdikarimova, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Agrarian, Water Management, and Environmental Issues; and Z. Bekatova, member of the Committee on Judicial and Legal Affairs and Anti-Corruption. The visit is organized in cooperation with the Open World Leadership Center at the U.S. Library of Congress, specializing in parliamentary diplomacy development.
During the program, the senators and deputies familiarized themselves with the U.S. Congress, legislative processes, and sectoral policy approaches. The visit began with an introductory meeting at the James Madison Memorial Library of Congress, followed by a seminar on the objectives of the Open World program and a lecture titled “American Federalism: How the U.S. Congress Works.”
The delegation also visited the Capitol Building, where they met with congressmen and senators, including members of the Subcommittee on Central Asia and the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. Discussions focused on areas of cooperation, sectoral challenges, and approaches to addressing them.
Special attention was given to sharing experiences in legislative work and regulatory mechanisms in economic, energy, and climate sectors. Meetings with Congress members covered bilateral relations, committee activities on budget, energy, and trade, innovations in energy policy, measures to combat climate change, and legislative initiatives in these areas.
The visit aims to strengthen parliamentary dialogue between Uzbekistan and the U.S., enhance legislative effectiveness, and expand cooperation in key sectors of the economy and technology.
