Uzbekistan’s National Vehicle Tracking System Exposed Online

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The national vehicle license plate tracking system in Uzbekistan was found publicly accessible on the internet, exposing data on millions of vehicles across the country, TechCrunch reports.

Managed by the Department of Public Safety under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the system includes about 100 high-precision cameras installed along major city roads and highways. The cameras monitor traffic violations, including red-light running, seatbelt noncompliance, unregistered vehicles, and nighttime movements. GPS coordinates reveal camera locations in Tashkent, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Namangan, and rural areas.

Security researcher Anurag Sen discovered that the system was accessible online without a password. The database has been compiled since September 2024, with active traffic monitoring starting in mid-2025. It contains millions of photos, 4K video footage, and exact camera coordinates.

The technology is provided by Chinese company Maxvision, known for traffic monitoring and video surveillance solutions globally. Some cameras watermark video with technology from Singapore-based Holowits.

TechCrunch notes that the web interface allows viewing of photos and videos of traffic violations, including neighboring vehicles, posing serious privacy risks for citizens. As of publication, the system remains open, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and government agencies have not commented.

Experts highlight that the incident exposes vulnerabilities in national surveillance systems and raises concerns about personal data security in the era of widespread video monitoring.
