Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Labor Seeks Court Order to Recover 1.5 Billion Soums in Unpaid Wages from Air Samarkand
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations of Uzbekistan has filed a lawsuit demanding that private airline Air Samarkand pay 1.5 billion soums in wage arrears owed to its employees, the ministry’s press service reported.
According to the ministry, by September 30 it had received around ten complaints from company staff. In response, the State Labor Inspectorate submitted a claim to the Samarkand City Civil Court seeking recovery of the unpaid wages, including compensation for each day of delay.
The total claim amounts to 1.5 billion soums, corresponding to three months of unpaid salaries for the period from June to August.
Earlier, dozens of Russian employees accused Air Samarkand of systematic delays in salary payments. Last year, around 75 workers were dismissed amid similar problems. Many current employees, including Russian nationals, have resigned, leaving mostly “aviation enthusiasts” at the company. According to them, salaries have not been paid since June, and in some cases workers have not even been provided with funds for food or rent.
